All systems are running Windows XP Pro SP3. I performed a speed test of a Patriot XT 4 GB USB Flash Drive on three different computer systems and I've gotten widely varying results. Worth noting is that I discovered that USB 2.0 Performance seems to be related to your PC's performance.

To test the speed of your Flash Drive, do a Google search for the free "HD Speed" utility, and download it. But I also believe that Flash Drives are supposed to have a maximum "write" life expectancy. I have to believe it's not much of a concern though as Microsoft Windows Vista supports ReadyBoost Technology for use with USB Flash Drives.
That's an excellent question that would be best asked in the forum on the Eboostr web site. Is it detrimental to the flash memory? I want to try, is there a way to know if my flash memory read speed is fast enough to get any advantage from using eBoostr? These tools, including ReadyBoost are really to accelerate reading from HDD, not as RAM replacement. It should still work though it hasn't been updated for years. There is also eBoostr, which works on a file system level so you can actually exclude files from being cached and you can do it through USB or internal drives. You can try using on USB, but only if it's USB 3.0 or something.
It makes a huge difference, but you'll have to use internal SSD for that. Just buy PrimoCache if you want acceleration through caching. It was useless when it was relevant and it's still useless today. Instead they left the thing to rot in it's useless form. Microsoft could repurpose ReadyBoost to allow caching on internal drives and make it so it doesn't scrap the data from last session and you'd basically have PrimoCache functionality built into Windows.
